Snow Shoe Rails to Trails held it first official work detail for 2018 on the trail this past Saturday.
A layer of snow did not stop the volunteers from showing up to help get
the trail and local roads in good condition for the Spring season.
Cold
weather and a layer of snow did not keep the SSRT from holding it's
first work detail of the season. Groups were divided into 2 trash
details to take care of Township & State roads with Mark Watson
& Jim Leigey heading up those crews. Another trash detail was lead
by Mary & Gary Halsnik to take care of cleaning the entire trail
from Clarence to Viaduct They also cleaned all the concrete slabs at
each gate. Thanks for their help to beautify the kiok as the entrance to
the trailhead. Cameron Fye & Bob Harris, Laura & Eric
Krape lead a group to install signs and clear brush from trail as there
was a lot of limbs etc that fell from the last wind storm. Jim Banfill
and Eric Rupert lead separate crews brushing trees from main trail and
side trails including Gorton & Peale Roads. Tom & Kathy Robbins
collected trash and completed Tennessee Turnpike part of the trail
system. George Holt lead a crew to install new corporate sign and also
new sign board at Gillentown Trailhead as they are all getting filled.
We would like to thank Diane Bierly and Colin Burke for their help from
the Centre County Probation Office in providing a few workers to help
with our community project. They did an excellent job helping to collect
trash, remove brush, install signs and sign board, clean storage area
and restrooms, dig out fence post. Thank you to everyone that
volunteered and traveled so far to help with this work detail.
