Connecting Bloody Skillet to Renovo and Renovo to Whiskey Springs

This is the latest updated map of the DCNR trail connecting Bloody Skillet to Renovo and Renovo to Whiskey Springs. It was presented to us at the North Central Initiative Committee Meeting in Lock Haven on December 14, 2018. We pushed hard to get this section of trail done now instead of waiting till later. Connecting Snow Shoe Rails to Trails to the entire trail system is important economically for all areas on both ends. There are so many people to thank for this trail system. DCNR Secretary Dunn, Mike Hanna Sr. & Mike Hanna Jr, Bureau of Forestry Jason Albright, CMATVA & SSRTA, Clinton & Centre County Commissioners, Clinton County Economic Development Association. CMATVA is working hard north of Renovo connecting township roads to Coudersport and beyond. Eventually, the plan is to ride from Philipsburg to New York. The Bloody Skillet to Renovo and Renovo to Whiskey Springs is to be open for the Spring of 2020. Then, the connection to New York is to be completed by 2024.
Secretary Dunn started a feasibility study for this section of trail. Then Public Input Meetings were held at Lock Haven University, Afterwards, Mike Hanna Jr recommended to get the trail into Governor Wolf's budget. So, Mike Hanna Sr was successful at doing so. We were told in the meeting December 14 by our new representative Stephanie Borowicz, that she is supportive of the trail and looks forward to working with everyone on it.
The SSRTA met recently with Bob Brown to make a connection around the viaduct bridge. He understands our interest and needs for this connection but has two more reclamation projects to complete first. The SSRTA would like to build a connection around the future project so more discussions still to be held.
Thank you all for your support of atv clubs.

The Snow Shoe Rails to Trails participated in the Light the Night Parade at Snow Shoe Park, Sunday, November 25, 2018. We met at Gillentown Trailhead to fixed the lighting on the atvs/utvs and then headed to Snow Shoe. Santa & Mrs. Claus were delivered by the Snow Shoe Fire Company and provided a gift to the children. Teachers and church members taught the children a number of Xmas songs to sing- beautiful! Kathy Muirhead and the rest of the volunteers did a wonderful job organizing and coordinating the event. Lot's of decorations in front of the park for everyone to enjoy!! Vendors were on hand selling food and crafts. The SSRTA's first time but we enjoyed getting together and riding in the event. After the parade, we topped off the evening with dinner at Newman's Sandwich Shop and then rode back to Gillentown Trailhead to load up and head home.

Movie scenes shot at the Peale Tunnel.

On Friday October 26, 2018 around noon, Spencer Folmar and movie crew met Snow Shoe Rails to Trails volunteers at Gillentown Trailhead. They traveled to Gorton and left a few of the movie vehicles and then moved on to the Peale Tunnel. The trail and tunnel were going to be scenes shot for the movie "Shooting Heroin". This long day started for Spencer and crew around noon and ended around 3:30am.

This was so interesting to see how movie scenes are shot and how much work goes into each scene. SSRTA volunteers shuttled people and equipment back and forth from Gorton Crossing, Gillentown Trailhead to the shooting location at Peale Tunnel. Dinner was served to eveyone around 6pm.

We all can't wait to see the movie next year this time at the Rowland Theatre in Philipsburg. The SSRTA wants to thank Spencer and his crew for the fine work done on the trail and Peale Tunnel.
