Youth Snowmobile Safety Course

Join Best Line Powersports on October 30th for their first annual DCNR Youth Snowmobile Safety Course at our Centre Hall location! Registration begins at 7:30 am, classes start at 8:00 am and end no later than 4:00 pm.

Administered by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the course will teach safe practices and attitudes to snowmobilers ages 10 - 15.

Pre-registration is required, but there is no fee to attend. There will be gear, equipment, and a snowmobile for the course and a complimentary lunch will be provided.

Vertical Bar Removal

Ron Fye and Larry Mayes were busy on the trail yesterday, October7,2021. They were finding and digging out the 42" vertical bars in the trail. There are still a few remaining and as people bring them to our attention we dig them out. Ron uses his metal detector at times to find them. Great day to be on the trail working. 

Trail Trimming Day 2

The October 5, 2021 work detail crew started up the trail towards Gorton work site. On the way we were treated to a large Eagle sitting along side the stream looking for breakfast. The fall colors and beautiful weather made the Laurel Falls so pretty on this gorgeous day. Andy Basalla started cleaning ditches while the contractor was brushing between Mile Marker 56 and 57. Snow Shoe Township Supervisor, Rodney Preslovich came out to check on the brushing and cleaning of the ditches. The smaller brushing machine did make it's way to almost Peale Tunnel, trimming back some of the lower brush. However, the larger machine with the Flail mower broke down as bearings went out ruining the drive belts. Gary Halsnik brought us all hoagies from Newman's Sandwich Shop for lunch. After lunch, Andy Basalla and Larry Mayes worked to clean various ditches. It was not a productive day as far as the brushing but to have the opportunity to work on the trail on such a beautiful day was so rewarding. We also want to thank Dennis Corman for allowing the contractor to park the equipment in his yard. So nice to have such wonderful trail neighbors. 

Trail Trimming

Snow Shoe Rails to Trails hired Shawley Contracting to trim the trail from Gorton Crossing to Peale Crossing. Monday, October 4, 2021, They completed trimming the trail from Mile Marker 55 at Gorton to Mile Marker 56. The plan for Tuesday is to work from Mile Marker 56 to Peale Tunnel, Just past Mile Marker 57. Gary Halsnik, Andy Basalla and Larry Mayes worked with the contractor and advised of expectations as warranted. Mark & Dan Shawley did a great job working together getting the first mile trimmed. They were very busy all day trimming and only stopped a short time for lunch. Gary, Andy and Larry were satisfied with their efforts to get the trail trimmed back far enough so the snow will not have an impact on the trail in that area. Hope the members will like and appreciate the areas trimmed for a safer trail.

Tree Down

Gary Halsnik and Andy Basalla reported to Mile Marker 63 where a tree was reported on the trail. While they were cutting the tree off the trail, Joe Reams met up with them while dragging the trail to smooth out some of the pot holes. 

We are so fortunate to have such good volunteers to help out when needed. Thank all three of you. 

9th Annual Carns/SSRTA Pig Roast

It was a beautiful day to host the 9th Annual Carns/SSRTA Pig Roast at Gillentown Trailhead on Saturday, September 25,2021. Wayne Wynick and a fellow worker displayed a few utvs and some other items for sale. We also enjoyed Centre County Commissioner, Mark Higgans attend and support the event. DJ Doug Katchik played some great music while everyone ate. Denny Pearse of Morrisdale won the 50/50-$421.00 and Michelle Guzzi of Scranton won the card raffle of $250.00.It was nice to see Danielle and Jason Vaux of Rockin V Signs and Chelsea and Matt Foster of Matt Foster Associates attend the event too. Great to see Roy & Karen Brooks attend from Brooks Welding of Bellefonte, Jeff Zenkel and his wife brought a nice size crew down from Piney Rail Riders of Clarion. Bob Nitch and his Valley ATV Crew attended from Scranton. We missed Jerry Guever and prayers go out to him. Jon Bartley brought the Polaris Ranger 1000 to the event for display from Best Line. We want to thanks Carns Equipment for their continued support of the trail. We could not do the things we do without them. Please support them when looking for a atv/utv or other equipment such as lawnmowers, power saws, etc. We want to thank the Centre County Probation Office and all our volunteers that helped prepare the day prior to the event and the day of the event. Such great dedicated people!! We also want to thank Chris Vangor, family & friends for working all night cooking the chicken and pigs so we could enjoy a wonderful meal.

This utv will be raffled off on October 16, 2021, 2pm at the Gillentown Trailhead Pavilion.  Free meal at this event starting around noon. Ruth Martin - 2 roaster ovens of Pig in a Blanket, Beth Watson, 2 roaster ovens of haluski, Ed Thomas, 1 roaster over of Pierogies, Jim Verost-one large pot of his famous chili, Gary Halsnik will be cooking many hot dogs and hamburgers. Please bring lawn chairs for sitting around pavilion as the raffle will start at 2pm. There will be a chinese auction and 50/50 too. Come join in the fun.
