ROAD CLOSED

NOTICE TO SSRTA MEMBERS TRAVELING TO GILLENTOWN TRAILHEAD FROM THE WEST
Section of Route 53 Closed until November for Slide Repair in Clearfield County
People traveling to Gillentown Trailhead from the West will have to use Interstate 80 to Snow Shoe Exit 147. Then proceed North on Route 144 to Gillentown Trailhead.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that slide repair work on a section of Route 53 (Kylertown/Drifting Highway) began on Monday, August 12. This work zone is located about 2 ½ miles north of the village of Drifiting, near the Clearfield/Centre County line.
To perform the repair work, this section of Route 53 was closed on Monday, August 12th and a detour is in place. Repairs will allow PennDOT to reopen both traffic lanes. All work is weather dependent.
An official 15-mile detour for Route 53 will be implemented the morning of August 12 and will continue until early November when the project is expected to complete. The detour will utilize Route 53, Route 144, and I-80. Local traffic traveling North on Route 53 from Kylertown will be permitted to access the Drifting area and traffic traveling South on Route 53 from Snowshoe will be permitted access as far as the bridge crossing Moshannon Creek.
Overall work on this design-build project will include construction of two retaining walls as well as 600 feet of roadway reconstruction.

Tree Removal From Storm

Andy Basalla and Larry Mayes did and inspection of the trail from Clarence to Viaduct Bridge today. The recent storms have knocked a few trees down and alot of dead tree limbs too. So, the focus was to clear any trees or debris from the trail.  8-9-19. They also secured any flex post that were loose.

Angel Tressler and her two boys, Brooks and Benner, were also helping to remove any tree limbs and debris in the Peale/Viaduct area.

Tree Down

On Thursday August 8, 2019 the storms hit Snow Shoe again. Well, Kim Corson reported a tree across the trail near the old Johnson & Morgan Wash Plant. Thanks to Cameron Fye for getting after this so quickly. Thank you again Cameron for your help. Kim also reported another tree down on Creek Road. A crew will take care of this tree Friday morning and do a search of the trail to the viaduct bridge.
