RIP Our Friend - Joe Walters

The Snow Shoe Rails to Trails lost a very good supporter and volunteer for the trail. Joe Walters lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

Joe would help Chris Vangor and family roast chickens for the BBQ. He would also roast the hogs all night long for the Pig Roast with Jim Vangor.  Joe never ask for anything except maybe some bones to feed the bears. A number of us will never forget the words exchanged between Joe & Chris Vangor when it came to stuffing the hogs. They had their own recipes and both shared their views on how it should be done. It was always one of the high-lights of the pig roast.  He will be deeply missed by all of us that worked closely with him. RIP Our Friend.

13th Annual Best Line Powerspts-SSRTA-CMATVA Dice Run

A great meal prepared by Ruth Martin & Trilby Mayes and supported by Best Line Powersports. CMATVA participated with Best Line by having a Dice Run in conjunction with the meal. Great turnout, lot's of door prizes and wonderful volunteers. We appreciated the help from the Centre County Probation Office too-setting up and tearing down everything for the event at the Moshannon Community Center. Also collected trash along approximately 5 miles of state and township roads. It was great to have Mike Getz(Best Line CEO) and Rob Clark(Manager of Parts & Maintenance at Centre Hall location) attend the event.
Thank you also goes out to Jim Verost for the wonderul chili. The Snow Shoe Rails to Trails wants to thank all of it's members for supporting the event and local community people for purchasing meals. We could not exist without your support.

DCNR Youth Certification Training - May 14, 2016

Provided by Carns Equipment and Snow Shoe Rails to Trails

8 through 15 years of age

When: May 14, 2016, starting at 9am and will last 4 to 5 hrs.

Where: Carns Equipment Company, LLC

Clearfield, Pa. 16830

Parents must pre-register their children by contacting Kurt Climie or Justin Carns at 814-765-5684
Child must have their own atv(no utvs or side by sides)helments, gloves, long sleeve shirts and pants(no shorts) and leather shoes.

There will be a maximum of 12 students accepted for this class.

A meal will be provided by Carns Equipment & Snow Shoe Rails to Trails the day of the training.

The training is free and donated by Snow Shoe Rails to Trails DCNR Instructors.

After the students complete and pass this training, they will receive a temporary certificate that permits them to operate an atv on DCNR state Trails and Snow Shoe Rails to Trails as long as they are with their parents or guardians.

2016 SSRT Membership Renewals

Members should have received a 2016 Membership Renewal Form with their newsletter recently.

Please fill out a new application with any updates and send to Snow Shoe Rails to Trails, P.O. Box 314, Clarence, PA 16829.

Remember to attach a copy of your insurance and registration information to your application. State recipocating with PA must also present a copy of their state's registration and insurance information. The membership year runs from January to December each year.

Motorized Users - Membership will be $20.00 per each motorized unit -" No family discount".

Elk Ride 2015 at Benezette

Forty plus members of the SSRT met at Newman's Sandwich Shop for breakfast on Saturday, November 7. The meals were prepared and served quickly and they were great. We then drove to Benezette to meet up with CMATVA members to join in on their Elk Ride-everyone contributed two unwrapped toys for the toy drive. We toured roads to see Elk and then ate a meal at the Benezette Restaurant. We all toured the winery and most bought gifts and wines. We got to see a successful hunter with a skinned Elk and at the end of the day we spotted two Eagles sitting in a tree. A great way to get out and ride atvs with your friends, socialize and enjoy the day. Just an awesome time!!

Bloody Skillet Work Details - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, May 16. 17. 18
Report to Gillentown Trailhead at 8am for these work details. Then, we will travel to northern most parking lot on DeHaas Road to meet DCNR, Bob Fitterling.

Tools, Equipment needed - atv carts, pruners, laupers, power saws.

The SSRT will be providing lunch & beverages for these work details.

2016 Snow Shoe Rails to Trails Events

Mark your calendars for our 2016 events!

January 9 - 13th Annual Best Line Powersports/SSRTA Winter Dinner Ride & CMATVA Dice Run

Meal will be served at Moshannon Community Center starting at 11:30am through 3pm or until all food is gone. Registration for Dice Run is 9am. We will be accepting application for membership at the Moshannon Community Center and selling clothing too.

April 30 - 1st Annual Steve Seltzer Powersports/SSRTA Spaghetti Dinner Ride and CMATVA Dice Run.

All you can eat spaghetti dinner at the Moshannon Community Center starting at 11:30am until 3pm or all food is gone. Registeration for Dice Run is 9am. We will be accepting applications for membership and selling clothing too.

June 18 - New Event: Sell & Swap at Gillentown Trailhead-starting at 9am

Members can pay $5.00 to set up a canopy to sell whatever you have laying around in that basement or garage. Old atvs & parts, truck & camper parts. This is your time to get rid of them and make a little money. Remember, one persons junk is another persons treasure.  SSRTA will divide the parking lot up into sections for members & corporate sponsors.SSRTA will sell applications for membership, clothing, and food such as burgers, dogs & fries. Members atving this day will be directed to the overflow areas.  

July 23 - 14th Annual Best Line Powersports/SSRTA Chicken BBQ

Arrive as you please & return aound 11:30am to Gillentown Trailhead for a wonderful meal of BBQ Chicken. SSRTA applications for membership, clothing will be on sale too.

September 17 - 4th Annual Carns Equipment/SSRTA Pig Roast

Ride as you please & return around 11:30am to Gillentown Trailhead for Roasted Pig & many side dishes too. We will be accepting applications for membership and sell clothing.
