Bridge Work

Centre County is alerting motorist that work to rehabilitate the existing Township bridge on T-505 (Main Street) over Beech Creek in Orviston, Curtain Township will be beginning the first week of September on or after September 5, 2023.

The Contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., will be replacing the existing bridge deck and barriers, along with approach roadway work and installation of current standard guide rail. When completed, this work will extend the service life of the existing bridge in order to provide a safe crossing for the traveling public.

While the work occurs, a single lane of traffic on the existing bridge will be maintained at all times in order to provide access to residents at the east bridge approach. Motorists are advised that traffic through the work zone will be controlled by temporary traffic signals at both roadway approaches on Main Street, as well as on T-504 (Middletown Road) at the intersection with Main Street and at the Orviston Bible Church parking lot at the bridge corner.

Additional one-way alternating traffic may be controlled with temporary flaggers at times during installation of the temporary signals, switching of construction phases, final roadway paving, and other times as needed by the Contractor. Due to the width of the existing bridge and the 90 degree turn on Main Street at the east end of the bridge, TRUCKS (Except Local Deliveries) and TRAILERS OVER 23 FEET will be prohibited from crossing the bridge during construction. Motorists are urged to exercise caution in this work zone. Remember to observe and obey, all work zone signage, posted speed limit signs, and flaggers. Motorists are encouraged to build a few extra minutes into their travel schedules as short delays are possible while work occurs.

Bridge work is anticipated to be completed by December 2023 with two lanes of traffic being restored across the bridge at this time. The Contractor anticipates returning in Spring 2024 to complete roadway paving and bridge deck overlay operations.

Youth ATV Training

Snow Shoe Rails to Trails atv trainers held atv training at Best Line Powersports in Center Hall, Saturday, August 12, 2023. Bob Biggans, Mark Watson and Marty Wagner-certified trainers  provided training. First was the classrooms session of asking questions and providing information of where and where not to ride atvs. Safety inspection of the atvs followed by the hands on. This is always the most fun part of the training as the trainees get a chance to ride their machines and the trainers make adjustments as necessary. Trilby Mayes, President of SSRTA presented the trainees with the temporary driving certificates and a SSRTA T-shirt. We want to thank Best Line for allowing us to continue the youth atv training at their facility.
